All Tomorrow's Parties

This is an Archive of a Past Event

The Department of Art & Art History and the Gallery Committee for the Stanford Art Gallery would like to congratulate the 23 student artists who were selected for All Tomorrow’s Parties, a juried exhibition mounted in the Stanford Art Gallery from September 30 - December 7, 2014, with an opening reception on Friday, October 3 from 5 – 7PM.  Students represent 18 majors from around the university, and their media vary from prints to photographs, and sculpture to multimedia installation.

This past winter quarter, undergraduate students in any discipline or major were invited to submit new work for the exhibition - the first of its kind to happen in the Stanford Art Gallery. The jury received over 100 fantastic entries submitted by 40 undergraduate students, and narrowed the participants down to 23 students displaying 30 pieces of work. The jury included Gail Wight (artist and Associate Professor in Art Practice, Stanford University), Richard Meyer (author and Robert and Ruth Halperin Professor in Art History, Stanford University), Corey Keller (Curator of Photography, SFMOMA), and Colleen Stockman (Assistant Curator for Special Projects, Cantor Arts Center).

Michelle Kwon (2016), whose photography project was selected for the exhibition, states, "as those illuminated by the arts anticipate the opening of the Anderson Collection this September, I'm electrified by the fact that my photographs will be showcased.  All Tomorrow's Parties allows a medley of media that have been envisioned and conceived by individuals with diverse directions to come together in the same space and time in order to celebrate the aesthetic and intellectual purposes of the arts. This means that there will be more open discourse regarding the nature of art on campus and beyond, and I'm blessed to be a part of this magical experience."
