The Bridge and Britten Cello and Piano Sonatas Project: Part One

This is an Archive of a Past Event

This noontime event will begin with a discussion of composer Benjamin Britten during his time as Frank Bridge's student, as well as a detailed conversation about Britten's relationship and artistic connection to the poet W. H. Auden, and the community of artists who interacted with Britten and Auden at February House in New York in the early 1940s. This will be followed by a musical demonstration including a complete performance of Frank Bridge's Cello and Piano Sonata performed by Christopher Costanza, cello, and Pedja Muzijevic, piano, with Stanford Associate Professor of English and Auden scholar Nicholas Jenkins as panelist. (First of two programs.) | Project supported by Stanford Arts Office of the Associate Dean.
