Monday November 11, 1996 | 06:00 -08:00 PM |

Raymond F. West Memorial Lecturer

Michael Taussig is Professor of Anthropology at Columbia University. He is a distinguished anthropologist whose work has investigated such areas as the history of African slavery, abolition in Western Colombia, and the impact of colonialism on shamanism and folk healing. His writing pays primary attention to textual construction as a form of analysis in itself, involving a mixture of ethnography, storytelling, metaethnography, and theory.

Professor Taussig gave three public lectures under the heading of "Defacement: Where Faciality and Sacrilege Merge".
