W. Robert Connor is Director of the National Humanities Center. He transformed the study of Athenian political history with his 1971 book "The New Politicians of Fifth-Century Athens" and he is one of the world's leading historians of ancient Greece. In 1984 he published a study called simply "Thucydides", which has arguably been the most important work of the last generation for breaking down barriers between literary and historical studies of ancient Greece. More recently, in a series of major articles he has taken this insight further, bringing the methods of the "new cultural history" into classical scholarship.

All events take place at Stanford University, unless otherwise noted.
