Arnold Rampersad is Sara Hart Kimball Professor of English at Stanford. He has written a two-volume biography on "The Life of Langston Hughes" and most recently "Jackie Robinson: A Biography." He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Science and of the American Philosophical Society.
