Lynn Hunt: "The Novel and the Origin of Human Rights: The Intersection of History, Psychology, and Literature"

Presidential Lecturer
Lynn Hunt, professor of modern European history at the University of California, Los Angeles, argued that the novel contributed to the emergence of the concept of human rights in the mid-eighteenth century, rights that were later declared to be "self-evident truths" in the U.S. Declaration of Independence.
