Film Screening: Stop the Pounding Heart (2013)

Blurring the line between documentary and drama, this film, the third in Minervini’s Texas Trilogy records non-professional actors acting out versions of their real-life selves. It tells the story of a budding teenage romance in the Lone Star State between Sara and Colby.  In its quietly powerful scenes we catch glimpses of the actors’ inner lives and conflicts as they contend with religion, love, and growing up. Part ethnography and part lyrical portrait, Minervini’s meditation on two Texan families transcends cinematic and humanistic boundaries.
This film is part of the Winter 2015 film series, Real Fictions. Find a full list of films here
