The Stanford Presidential and Endowed Lecture Series in the Humanities and Arts brings the most distinguished scholars, artists, and critics of our time to the Stanford University campus for lectures, seminars, panel discussions, and a variety of related interactions with faculty, students and the community at large.
Funded by the President's Office and endowments, and administered under the auspices of the Stanford Humanities Center, these programs explore new roles and relations for the Humanities and Arts in the academic community in the 21st century.
Presidential Lectures
These lectures were initiated in 1998 as part of a global effort by the Stanford President's Office to address the role that the Humanities and Arts will play in the future of Stanford University and in the academy at large. The Presidential Lectures are typically presented once each quarter during the academic year. More »

Harry Camp Memorial Lecture
The Harry Camp Memorial Fund was established in 1956 by friends and associates of Harry Camp. A prominent businessman and philanthropist in San Francisco, Camp was described as "a gentle and wise humanitarian." The fund brings outstanding speakers to the University for public lectures and promotes the study of "the concept of the dignity and the worth of the individual." The Camp Lectures are presented every other year. More »
Raymond Fred West Memorial Lecture
The Raymond Fred West Memorial Lecture Series was established in 1910 by Mr. and Mrs. Frederic West of Seattle in memory of their son, a student at Stanford University. The lectures are to promote the subject of "immortality, human conduct, and human destiny." West Memorial Lectures are presented in alternate years with the Camp Memorial Lectures. More »
Bliss Carnochan Lecture
The Bliss Carnochan Lecture was established in 1992 and is presented annually to honor Bliss Carnochan, the Richard W. Lyman Professor of Humanities, Emeritus, and director of the Humanities Center from 1985 to 1991. More »
Marta Sutton Weeks Distinguished Visitors
A gift to endowment from Marta Sutton Weeks in 1987 provides funds to bring visiting distinguished lecturers to Stanford University for stays varying in duration from one week up to one quarter. More »
