He will be talking about his new book, "American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us". Based on five years of field work in a dozen congregations around the country, as well as two major new national surveys on religion and civic life, American Grace describes how religion has evolved in America over the last half century. The book aims to shed some factual light on the white-hot culture wars, explaining religious America to secular America and vice versa.

After an early briefing about the findings, Michael Gerson wrote in theWashington Post last year, "There is a book that everyone will be talking about -- when it appears over a year from now. "American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us" being written by Robert Putnam and David Campbell, is already creating a buzz. And the book they haven't yet finished will make just about everyone constructively uncomfortable."
