Stefano Aresi: Understanding the Vocal Phenomenon – The Castrato Luigi Marchesi and the Art of Singing – New date!

Stefano Aresi has a Doctoral degree in Musicology from University of Pavia. He has written essays and books about the birth of the Galant style (late Italian Baroque) and other topics. In 2010, Aresi founded Stile Galante, an ensemble dedicated to performing on period instruments, resulting in enthusiastic reviews from The Guardian, BBC Music Magazine, The Gramophone, Avvenire, The Irish Times, The Sunday Times, Milano Finanza, and Klassik magazine. From April 2015 to April 2016, Stile Galante is celebrating the castrato Luigi Marchesi (1754-1829) – one of the most famous singers of his age – with a CD release, a musicological study, critical editions of music sung by Marchesi, and a lecture series including this talk at Stanford. | This event was rescheduled from May 16th.
