European Entrepreneurship & Innovation @ Stanford Engineering (ME421)

In Session Seven we present Hermann Hauser, a serial tech entrepreneur who is today considered one of the 'grandfathers' of venture capital in his adopted country, the United Kingdom. Located one hour by train north of London, the Cambridge technology cluster is Europe's closest analogue to Silicon Valley, and is home to not only Amadeus Capital, but also to ARM, Autonomy (HP) and numerous other tech and biotech enterprises, many of which have been spun out from Cambridge University laboratories. How did the Cambridge tech cluster happen? How is it similar and different from Silicon Valley? Where is it headed today? Our afternoon tea with Hermann will explore these and many other aspects of 'The Cambridge Phenomenon' which is poorly understood in Silicon Valley. We depart here from our usual two-speaker format to present one of Europe's most distinguished venture capitalists and entrepreneurs in order to do a 'deep dive' into this extremely important topic.
