The Stanford Humanities Center is pleased
to announce that the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education
(VPUE) provided funding for six Undergraduate Research Assistant
Fellowships in 2003-2004.
Description
This fellowship program
brings undergraduate students to the intellectual life of the Humanities
Center. Undergraduate fellows spend the academic year working on collaborative
research projects with faculty fellows at the Center. Fellowship awards
are made to students who wish to work closely with a faculty fellow
and who are interested in fostering connections between the Humanities
Center and the undergraduate community at Stanford. These fellowships
are awarded and renewed on a quarterly basis throughout the academic
year, on the mutual agreement of the faculty fellow and the student;
most students hold their fellowship for the entire duration of the academic
year.
Program Eligibility
Each year the Center’s faculty fellows are eligible to apply with
a registered Stanford undergraduate for one Undergraduate Research Assistant
Fellowship. A faculty fellow and an undergraduate with similar research
interests design a project and then apply as a team for undergraduate
fellowship support. Each fellowship provides a stipend of $1,125 per
quarter for up to 10 hours per week of research work. No course credit
is allowed for work done as part of this fellowship.
Selection Criteria
Undergraduates writing honors theses, students who intend to write honors
theses, and/or students who are interested in pursuing research beyond
their course requirements would be good candidates to apply for these
fellowship. Ideally, undergraduate fellows are majoring in a humanities
department. However, the program may also include majors from any department
as long as they are working on a humanities-related project.
How to Apply
After identifying an undergraduate to participate as a Research Assistant
Fellow through the program, a faculty fellow should fill out an application
form in collaboration with this student. Completed applications
should be submitted to Chi Elliott,
Fellowship Administrator, (ID Mail Code: 4015) or (Fax: 723-1895).
The six fellows for Fall and Winter 2003-2004 have been selected. No more applications will be accepted for Winter
Quarter 2003-2004.
