These fellowships are intended for Stanford
doctoral students of unusual promise and achievement who are just beginning
work on their dissertation. Applicants who have completed their course
requirements and are ready to devote full time to developing their research
are preferred. Students normally hold these fellowships in their third
or fourth year of graduate work.
Applicants need not belong to humanities
departments as traditionally defined, but their academic aims should
be consonant with those of faculty and students in cultural, historical,
linguistic, literary, artistic or philosophical disciplines.
NOTE:
Pre-Doctoral Fellowships will not be offered in 2003-04 pending evaluation
of the program.
