We will meet at 5:30 for dinner, followed by a short talk by Professor Romaniello, and then discussion. Please RSVP so that we can send you the reading and order enough food.

Matthew Romaniello is professor of history at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. He specializes in the history of Russia, early modern Europe, and medicine. He has worked on the relationship between the Russian Empire and its Muslim subjects, and he currently focuses on the economic competition between Russia and Britain over Eurasian trade networks with the Middle East and Asia. He also studies health and illness in the Russian Empire, examining state regulation of colonial bodies.
