Dr. Maria Teodora Comsa will show how Casanova skilfully negotiated and manipulated existing discourses of religiosity and selfhood to carve out a unique space for himself in transnational European society.

About the speaker:

Maria Teodora Comsa recently completed her Ph.D. at Stanford in the DLCL on society theater, a popular form of private spectacle in 18th century France, examining the interaction and slippage between public and private theaters. Her paper on Casanova forms part of a new project.
