Date and Time:
Monday, February 5, 2018. 05:30 PM - 08:00 PM
Meeting Location:
Humanities Center Boardroom
Workshop:
Eurasian Empires
Meeting Description:

We will meet at 5:30 pm for dinner. Professor Molly Greene will give a short background sketch of her work, followed by questions and discussion.

Professor Greene studies the history of the Mediterranean Basin, the Ottoman Empire, and the Greek world. Her interests include the social and economic history of the Ottoman Empire, the experience of Greeks under Ottoman rule, Mediterranean piracy, and the institution of the market. Her PhD is from the Department of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University. Her numerous books and articles challenge simplistic narratives of Christian-Muslim antagonism in the eastern Mediterranean and give voice to the many elements at play in the region, including the tension between Latin and Orthodox Christianity and the influence it exerted throughout the medieval and early modern periods.
