Meeting description
In recognition of Angola’s four decades of independence, to be celebrated on November 11th 2015, this event brings together scholars engaged with contemporary and historical Angola for a one-day intensive workshop and discussion leading up to the African Studies Association’s Annual Meeting in San Diego. It comprises the first event in the Stanford Humanities Center’s Geballe Workshop on African Nostalgias, and will consist of a four part program of the following events: a) an invitation-only morning workshop for graduate students and junior scholars based on pre-circulated papers b) a public lunch with invited scholars from Angola on human rights, c) a public dialogue between prominent scholars of Angola and Stanford faculty on the post-war reconciliation and development process d) a public launch of two new books about Angola: Justin Pearce’s Political Identity and Conflict in Central Angola and Christian William’s National Liberation in Post-Colonial Southern Africa.
