Meeting Location:
Building 50, Room 51A
Workshop:
Concerning Violence: A Decolonial Collaborative Research Group
Meeting Description:

Please join us for our second workshop of the winter quarter, "Xinampa Labs: A Space For Action At the Intersection of Decolonial Thought and Community Control of Modern Technology," on Friday, March 1st from 12:30 to 2 PM in Building 50, Room 51A.

Bioengineering PhD candidate Rolando Cruz Perez will discuss the growth of maker spaces and community laboratories particularly in fields such as AI and Biotechnology. He contends that the act of disenfranchised communities drawing upon their lived experiences and ancestral knowledge in these spaces has the potential to cultivate civic, economic, and culturally-embedded empowerment in these communities. Rolando will highlight the ongoing efforts of Xinampa Labs, an organization he co-founded, and will facilitate a larger discussion about the possibility of creating new institutions or taking over old ones for the purposes of liberation.

 RSVP HERE.
