Description

Today, it is commonly believed that we are immersed in an image-driven culture unprecedented in human history. Cinema and virtual reality systems are two of the most conspicuous examples cited by critics in claiming that contemporary culture has effected a visual turn in the organization of knowledge. This workshop, which is also a Mellon Sawyer Seminar, aims to explore such claims in a historical perspective, challenging the assumption that today’s visuality marks a historic break with the past.
