Pandora Syperek

Dr. Pandora Syperek is a writer, art historian, and visiting fellow at the V&A Research Institute and Loughborough University London.

Alongside Dr. Sarah Wade, the pair have been working on the sea in art and exhibitions since they both completed their respective PhDs in the History of Art at University College London. They founded the long-term ongoing research project Curating the Sea in 2017, which has resulted in a series of events, conferences, performances, commissions, publications, and exhibitions. These include the major group exhibition Sea Inside (Sainsbury Centre, 2025), the book Oceans: Documents of Contemporary Art (MIT Press/Whitechapel Gallery, 2023), and a special issue of the Journal of Curatorial Studies on "Curating the Sea" (2020). Across their work, they have collaborated with international artists, curators, museums, galleries, and arts organizations. Recognized internationally for their work in this field, they've also published widely on the sea in art and display in peer-reviewed journals, exhibition catalogues, and edited volumes. Their research has been funded by the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, the Leverhulme Trust, University College London, and University of East Anglia.
