Shiyao Li is a fourth-year Ph.D. student in Computer Science and Informatics at Emory University. His research investigates how human and visualization design factors influence the interpretation of visual data through the lens of confirmation bias. By integrating both quantitative and qualitative methods, his work seeks to understand how individuals reason with and derive insights from visualizations.
Shiyao Li contributed to Data by Design as a student researcher, prototyping the visualizations of the Voyages data for the "Every Datapoint A Person" chapter, and the project team's data for the chapter about the making of the site (From Idea to Insight).
