Film Screening: American Movie (1999)

Chris Smith’s 1999 documentary American Movie is a hilarious exploration of the very large ambitions of small-town filmmaker and horror enthusiast Mark Borchardt.  An exploration of the complex relationships between Borchardt and his family, friends, and film crew, American Movie balances the bleak realities of rural poverty and alcoholism with eccentric portraits of the insane imagination that make these conditions livable.
This film is part of the Winter 2015 film series, Real Fictions. Find a full list of films here
