Since at least the early 19th century, how we hear and understand music has been linked to our views of nature and the built environment. Join us as President Botstein charts these parallel developments. He will explore the work of composers — among them Mendelssohn, Mahler, Sibelius, and Stravinsky — and compare their music to the work of the architects Schinkel, Wright, Saarinen, and Le Corbusier.

Leon Botstein has been president of Bard College since 1975. He is the music director of the American Symphony Orchestra and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.
