Memory, Cloth, Body, Text: Calling Egungun (the Bones) to Life

This is an Archive of a Past Event

Marie E. Hamilton Abegunde is an egungun (ancestral) priest in the Yoruba Orisa tradition, a Lecturer in the department of African & African Diaspora Studies, and the Director of the Graduate Mentoring Center at Indiana University, Bloomingtom. Her research focuses on embodied memory of the Middle Passage, the ways in which unresolved ancestral emotions shape the lives of descendants, and the links between ancestral wounding, contemporary violence, illness, and disease. In this workshop, Dr. Abegunde will discuss conducting research and doing auto-ethnography as a practitioner and a scholar.
