Summoning Pearl Harbor

This is an Archive of a Past Event

The Department of Art & Art History presents Summoning Pearl Harbor, a lecture by Professor Alexander Nemerov, Chair of Stanford University’s Art & Art History Department.

How do words make the past appear? How is the historian a necromancer who summons bygone events out of nowhere? What is the cultural importance of this kind of remembering, if it even is remembering? Do the dead and forgotten appreciate being recalled?

This lecture is free and open to the public with advance registration.
