Stanford’s American Studies Program and Environmental Humanities at Stanford Present a Talk by Janet M. Davis (Professor of American Studies, University of Texas at Austin) on her new book The Gospel of Kindness Animal Welfare and the Making of Modern America. Published on the 150th anniversary of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), The Gospel of Kindness,a pioneering transnational history of animal advocacy at home and abroad, places animals at the center of modern American history and animal kindness as a core American value.
