Joan Scott, Harold F. Linder Professor at the School of Social Science in the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University, will deliver a lecture entitled “Theorizing the Relationship between Gender and Politics.” Reexamining the nexus between gender and politics, Scott sees language as a clue to the psychic life of subjects and to the indeterminacy of their constitution. She understands sexual difference as a permanent enigma whose meaning—because it is neither apparent nor immutable—is always grounded in history.
