Tod Dickow and the Charged Particles Trio: Tribute to Michael Brecker

This is an Archive of a Past Event

This concert celebrates the music of iconic tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker, whose unique voice and approach to the instrument has influenced every performing jazz artist today. He was awarded some of the highest honors in jazz: winner of 15 Grammys, an Honorary Doctorate from the Berklee College of Music, and induction into Down Beat magazine's Hall of Fame – all before his untimely death at age 57.

Bay Area saxophonist Tod Dickow and the Stanford-based Charged Particles Trio will perform a wide swath of Brecker's music from several eras, spotlighting his sparkling compositions and technical virtuosity. The trio has performed for many years throughout the U.S and is comprised of two Stanford faculty members – Murray Low and Jon Krosnick – and first-call bassist Aaron Germain.

Pre-concert Panel Discussion at 6:30 p.m.: Before the concert, please join saxophonist Tod Dickow and the Charged Particles Trio (Murray Low, Jon Krosnick, and Aaron Germain) for a discussion on the life and times of Michael Brecker. The panel will provide unique insights into Brecker's varied musical contributions, recordings, and impact on other musicians, both during and after his career.
