Historian and author Jorge Cañizares-Esguerra speaks about his research on 16th century social revolutions after conquest for the inaugural lecture in this new series, recorded on September 23, 2020. He is the Alice Drysdale Sheffield Professor of History at the University of Texas at Austin. Professor Cañizares-Esguerra works on early modern Atlantic history, the history of science and colonialism; the history of knowledge; and colonial Spanish and British America. He has also authored several books: How to Write the History of the New World (Stanford 2001); Puritan Conquistadors (Stanford 2006); and Nature, Empire, and Nation (Stanford 2007).
