The Lure of Origins: Sexology and the Trans Autobiographical Mandate
Dr. Fischer’s first book project, The Lure of Origins: Sexology and the Trans Autobiographical Mandate, examines the relationship between autobiographical storytelling and the emergence of the modern trans subject in Anglo and German sexology and psychoanalysis. By tracing the historical entanglement of the category “trans” with that of “psychosis,” this project develops a critical methodology of reading trans narratives, one grounded in the desire for uncertainty and singularity rather than the mandate of affirmation through self-knowledge.
