Maria Shevelkina

Workshop Coordinator
Working Group in Literary & Visual Culture

Maria is a second year PhD student in the Department of Art and Art History studying Byzantine, "post"-Byzantine, and Kyivan-Rus' art and architecture through primarily formalist and technical methodologies. She is interested in the aesthetics and phenomenology of lived and depicted spaces in correlation with their affective experience. Her work emphasizes the sensual--especially the visual--as critical mediators of culturally-based perception and also considers the influence of the poetic on spatial production.
