About the Speaker

Elizabeth Chatterjee is Assistant Professor of Environmental History at the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on the history of energy and infrastructure in South Asia from the late colonial period to the present. She is currently completing her first scholarly book, Electric Democracy: An Energy History of India from Colonialism to Climate Change (forthcoming from the University of Chicago Press). An inveterate pursuer of side projects, her published and forthcoming articles cover a range of environmental topics, including the development problem of cow dung, gender and early solar technologies, and dams that cause earthquakes.
