Presidential Lecturer

Hazel Carby is known for broadening the range of African American scholarship by situating it in the larger context of the international black diaspora. In her talk, which drew from her own experiences growing up biracial in postwar Britain, she described how she found it difficult to realize "black Britishness" and came to feel like an outcast in her own country.
