Radical Breathwork and Abolitionist Futures is a breathing meditation and movement workshop drawing on anti-colonialist philosophy, engaged Buddhism, and Black feminist theories and practices of breathing in the context of racism, war, and state violence to embody more liberatory worlds. This workshop was developed alongside the “Breath, Form, and Freedom” memorial designed by Dr. Patricia Nguyen for the Chicago Torture Justice Memorial Project, which is the first memorial in the nation that honors survivors of police torture, established as part of a historic Reparations ordinance. In this workshop, participants will explore their own relationship to breath and movement as we play with the possibilities of breaking form to shape abolitionist futures.
