A Reading with Jane Hirshfield, the Mohr Visiting Poet

Jane Hirshfield, a current chancellor of The Academy of American Poets, is the author of fourteen books, including eight books of poetry (most recently, The Beauty, currently long listed for the National Book Award), two collections of essays, and four books presenting and co-translating the work of world poets of the past. Her poetry, described as “radiant and passionate” in The New York Times Book Review, “magnificent and distinctive” by The Irish Times, and “among the pantheon of the modern masters of simplicity” by The Washington Post, appears in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Poetry, The New Republic, The Paris Review, Harper’s, and eight editions of The Best American Poetry. Other honors include fellowships from the Guggenheim and Rockefeller foundations, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Academy of American Poets; the California Book Award; the Donald Hall-Jane Kenyon Prize in American Poetry; the Poetry Center Book Award; and Columbia University’s Translation Center Award. Hirshfield has been a visiting poet at U.C. Berkeley, the Bennington MFA Writing Seminars, UCSF, and elsewhere, and appears frequently at literary festivals throughout the U.S. and abroad.
