Writing for a Broad Audience in the Humanities

This is an Archive of a Past Event

In a recent report on the challenges facing the humanities, the American Academy of Arts & Sciences has urged humanists to be proactive about communicating their research to the broader public: “Top scholars should embrace the chance to connect with the larger community and help it feel the interest of their subjects and the power of their analyses.”

How can you write about your research in a way that is both broadly accessible and rigorous? How can you make technical subjects or unfamiliar cultures and time periods engaging to non-specialists?

Join David Kennedy (History), Ian Morris (Classics), and Cory Goldman (Director of Humanities Communication) for a lively discussion of these issues. Learn how you can gain experience writing for non-specialist audiences through Stanford’s Humanities PhD Journalist Project. Lunch will be served.
