These graduating seniors reflect on their year as Hume Honors Fellows at the Humanities Center.
Novia Liu is a senior studying the history of the American Founding, particularly the era’s legal and intellectual developments. Thus far, her scholarship has focused on how different conceptions of government shaped the creation and early interpretation of the United States Constitution. Her honors thesis builds on her previous research endeavors, which include coauthoring the entry “Ratification of the Constitution” for Oxford Bibliographies and completing the Gilder Lehrman College Fellowship in American History. After college, she hopes to pursue both a JD and a PhD in history in preparation for a career in academia.
Jane Lord-Krause is a senior from Seattle, WA majoring in American Studies and Mathematics. She is writing her thesis about linguistic stereotypes of Native Americans in 1860s and ‘70s pulp fiction after being inspired by her sophomore year PWR (Program in Writing and Rhetoric) class in which she wrote about Black Elk Speaks. She loves hiking, road biking, skiing, sewing, reading, and going to Stanford sports games.
