We invite you to the film showing and discussion of We Were Here: The Untold Story of Black Africans in Renaissance Europe, followed by a small reception (6-6:30pm in the History lounge, room 302) for Director Fred Kuwornu.
We Were Here provides an innovative exploration of fifteenth- and sixteenth-century Europe through art, culture, and social history. Shot across Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, England, the Netherlands, and Brazil, the film reinterprets Renaissance masterpieces to reveal the often-overlooked presence and contributions of Africans to European society. The project also offers students the rare chance to engage directly with an artist whose work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale.
