Meeting Location:
Zoom
Workshop:
Matters of Voice 2020
Meeting Description:

Italian philosopher Adriana Cavarero will be presenting a chapter from her upcoming book Surging Democracy: Notes on Hannah Arendt's Political Thought. The chapter is entitled "The Voice of Plurality" and engages with questions of vocality and democracy. Professor David Palumbo-liu from the Comparative Literature Department, and Maria Massucco, PhD Candidate in the Italian & French Department, will serve as respondents.

Adriana Cavarero is professor of political philosophy at the University of Verona and works at the interstices of sexual difference theory, voice studies, political philosophy, literature, and classical thought. Her books in English include For More than One Voice (2005) and Horrorism (2008). Common to all of Cavarero’s work is a concern with uniqueness, an insistence on the vulnerability of the human condition, and a careful critique of western metaphysics.
