American Oikos: Finance, Family, and the Student Loan Crisis

Meeting Description: 
In 2016, student loan debt topped $1.3 trillion dollars giving it a central place in the financial economy. In decisions to send children to college, bonds of love and obligation both direct households’ investments and constitute resources for the financial industry. This talk will explore the relationship between the financial economy and American student debtor families through their uses of financial instruments and their investment in the object of children’s potential.
