Jonathan Rosa: A Raciolinguistic Perspective on the Perceiving Subject

Date and Time:
Thursday, April 22, 2021. 03:00 PM
Meeting Location:
Zoom
Workshop:
Cognition and Language Workshop
Meeting Description:

This presentation reconsiders pragmatist semiotic approaches to the study of linguistic perception by demonstrating colonially conditioned ways in which race and language become co-naturalized and overdetermined. By developing analytical strategies for examining these processes, it becomes possible to reconceptualize relationships between analyses of linguistic diversity and contestations of transhistorical power formations.

Jonathan Rosa is associate professor in the Graduate School of Education and, by courtesy, of Linguistics and Anthropology at Stanford University.
