Meeting Location:

Workshop:
The Future of the Past: Classics & Technology
Meeting Description:

In this workshop, Dr. Kyle Helms (St. Olaf College) will explore the “Future of the Past” by presenting my experiences working on the Epigraphic Database Roma and the Ancient Graffiti Project, a collaborative, multi-institution, and international DH and field project that aims “to allow scholars and the general public to explore ancient handwritten wall-inscriptions and to understand them in context.” EDR and AGP combine to offer a model of how technology can help make even very recherché information more accessible, while also providing opportunities for classics undergraduates to engage in meaningful research collaborations. With an eye towards current graduate student concerns, he will also discuss the advantages and challenges of collaborative DH research from the perspective of an early-career classicist.
