Nigel Smith: Purity of Diction in English Verse, Dissenting Poetics and the Student Revolution

Professor Nigel Smith (Princeton University) will give a presentation titled “Purity of Diction in English Verse, Dissenting Poetics and the Student Revolution: Donald Davie in Cambridge, Essex and Stanford, and What Next?” in conversation with Professor Robert von Hallberg (Claremont McKenna College).
Nigel Smith is William and Annie S. Paton Foundation Professor of Ancient and Modern Literature and chair of the Committee for Renaissance and Early-Modern Studies at Princeton University. He has published mostly on seventeenth-century English literature, especially Marvell, Milton, and the radical tradition. Polyglot Poetics: Transnational Early Modern Literature is shortly forthcoming. He is a Marta Sutton Weeks Fellow at the Stanford Humanities Center for academic year 2021-22.
