Reframing Fashion Studies: Performance, Gender, and the Body
Meeting Description:

Poulomi Saha is assistant professor of English at the University of California, Berkeley. She is affiliated faculty in the Programs in Critical Theory and Gender and Women’s Studies, and teaches courses in postcolonial studies, gender and sexuality theory, and ethnic American literature. Her first book, An Empire of Touch: Women’s Political Labor & The Fabrication of East Bengal (Columbia UP, 2019), was awarded the Helen Tartar First Book Subvention Prize by the American Comparative Literature Association in 2017.

Saha is currently at work on two new projects: one, which looks at conspiracy as a legal, philosophical, and political concept to understand the rise of the surveillance of racial and sexual subjects in WWI America; and the second, from which this presentation is drawn, is interested in "Hindu" cults in the popular American imagination.

Workshop co-sponsored by the Center for South Asia.
