Date and Time:
Wednesday, February 23, 2022. 05:30 PM - 07:00 PM
Meeting Location:
Board Room, Stanford Humanities Center, and over Zoom
Workshop:
Postcolonial Spatialities
Meeting Description:

Please join us in conversation with Dr. Ziad Fahmy (Cornell), who will be discussing his prize-winning monograph, Street Sounds: Listening to Everyday Life in Modern Egypt. Using infrastructural, cultural, and social history, Fahmy analyzes the sounds of modernity and uses sounded sources as an analytical tool for examining the past. Street Sounds also reveals a political dimension of noise and contextualizes sound, bringing us closer to the Egyptian streets as lived and embodied by everyday people. The first 20 registered attendees who attend the event in-person will receive a free copy of Street Sounds.

This event will take place in the Stanford Humanities Center Board Room and online via Zoom. Registration is required for all participants. RSVP >>
