Professor Lester’s recent research in an American eating disorders clinic raises a number of ethical quandaries, none of which have a straightforward resolution. In this talk, speaking as an ethnographer, a clinician, and a former eating disorder patient, she reflects on her research experience and sets out a number of guiding principles for doing ethically engaged research.
