Giancarlo Michnovicz: Senior Composition Recital

This is an Archive of a Past Event

Giancarlo Michnovicz is a senior at Stanford University studying Composition. Growing up, Giancarlo was always actively involved with the creation of music in all ways. Never content as a single instrumentalist, Giancarlo has studied a wide array of instruments, including bluegrass banjo, modern drum set, classical and jazz trumpet, and Central Asian percussion. At Stanford, Giancarlo has played both trumpet and percussion in ensembles including the Stanford Wind Symphony, the Stanford Philharmonia, the Stanford Jazz Orchestra, and the Ram’s Head Theatrical Society. Compositions to be performed include:

  • Selections from Burgundy Songbook for piano, bass, guitar, drum set, vibraphone, mandolin, and string quartet
  • Suite for Equus for percussion quartet: vibraphone, djembe, bass drum / snare Drum, and assorted percussion (selections of music written for Peter Schaffer's play Equus, adapted to a concert piece from a staging created last winter)
  • Piano Quintet (composed this year as a senior capstone project)
