Stanford Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble: Flute Summit - New date!

This is an Archive of a Past Event

Join the Stanford Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble for a special evening with flute masters Andrea Brachfeld and John Calloway! Both world-class artists are considered to be pioneers of their craft, and they will be appearing together in this once-in-a-lifetime collaboration that will feature several of their original compositions and arrangements spanning the entire scope of Afro-Latin Jazz.

Andrea Brachfeld is internationally known for her contributions to charanga, salsa, Latin jazz, jazz, and even devotional music. Her breakthrough performance as the flautist for the popular Latin band Charanga ’76, catapulted her into salsa history as the first female to play that music in the United States. Since then, she has recorded six CDs as a leader and performed worldwide, most recently in Cuba and Peru.

Dr. John Calloway has been a mainstay in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 30 years. He has collaborated with a who's-who of Bay Area jazz and Latin jazz innovators and has received several Grammy nominations for both his playing and composing talents. He has released two CDs as a leader and also holds a Doctorate in Education for his teaching methodology in Latin Jazz.

This event was rescheduled from May 29th.
