"Overview After Stanford"

Mark Fox presents an overview of the development of his work and career since receiving his MFA from Stanford in 1988.

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Mark Fox received his BFA from Washington University in St. Louis and his MFA from Stanford University. Fox was the founding Artistic Director of Saw Theater, a puppet and object theater based in Cincinnati. With collaborator Anthony Luensman, Fox created and performed works for Saw Theater from 1994-2001, touring national venues such as the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, the Detroit Institute of Arts, Theater for the New City (NYC), and the Festival of International Puppetry at P.S. 122. His short film “Toy” toured the U.S., Europe and Japan with the 1999 Super Super 8 festival.

Based in New York City since late 2003, Mark Fox has exhibited widely in the city with solo shows at Larissa Goldston Gallery and Robert Miller Gallery and numerous group exhibitions, including Cheim & Read, Feature, Inc, and the Drawing Center. Museum exhibitions include solos at the Santa Barbara Arts Forum, the Herbert F. Johnson Museum (Cornell University) and the Cincinnati Art Museum, and group exhibits at the Museum of Arts and Design (NYC), the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. In 2010, Fox received the Versailles Foundation’s Munn Artist Award, granting him a residency at the Monet Foundation in Giverny, France. Fox’s work can be found in many public collections, including The Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Anderson Collection.
