Katherine Whatley is a PhD Candidate in Japanese Literature studying classical Japanese poetry, narrative and music. Her research spans literary studies, religious studies, musicology and gender/sexuality studies. She is also a performer of the koto (transverse Japanese harp) and is also working on a composition based around classical Japanese songs as part of her dissertation. She is looking forward to continuing to build in an person and international comparative poetics community this year. When not working, her favorite thing at Stanford is being able to drive to mountains and the ocean for great hikes and views.
